01
PURPOSE

Role of the Publisher Advisory Board

The Publisher Advisory Board serves as a scholarly advisory body to Macaw Publications. Its purpose is to provide informed academic perspectives on matters relevant to responsible scholarly publishing, research integrity, publication standards, journal development, emerging research practices, and the wider communication of scientific knowledge.

The Board contributes publisher-level guidance rather than manuscript-level editorial decision-making. Its recommendations may inform the long-term academic direction of Macaw Publications, development of publishing policies, disciplinary representation, scholarly engagement, responsible adoption of publishing technologies, and continuous improvement of the publisher's journal portfolio.

02

Academic Expertise

Members are selected on the basis of relevant academic qualifications, research experience, scholarly contributions, professional standing, editorial experience, or specialised disciplinary knowledge.

Disciplinary Representation

The Board incorporates expertise across computing, artificial intelligence, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, materials research, mathematics, and related interdisciplinary fields.

Institutional Diversity

Participation from different universities, academic institutions, research organisations, and professional settings is encouraged to strengthen the breadth of scholarly perspectives.

Geographical Perspective

Appropriate national and international academic participation is encouraged where it contributes substantively to the scholarly development and responsible governance of the publishing programme.

04
EDITORIAL STRUCTURE

Relationship with Journal Editorial Boards

Publisher-level advisory responsibilities are distinct from journal-level editorial responsibilities.

The Publisher Advisory Board provides scholarly and strategic guidance concerning the broader publishing activities of Macaw Publications. It does not automatically perform the functions assigned to the Editor-in-Chief, Associate Editors, Section Editors, or Editorial Board of an individual journal.

Decisions relating to the peer review, revision, acceptance, rejection, or other editorial disposition of individual manuscripts remain within the editorial process of the respective journal.

A member of the Publisher Advisory Board may also hold a formal editorial appointment with one or more Macaw Publications journals. Where this occurs, the publisher-level advisory role and the journal-level editorial role are treated as separate responsibilities.

05
RESPONSIBILITIES

Expected Contributions of Advisory Board Members

01

Provide independent and constructive scholarly advice on publisher-level academic development and responsible publication practices.

02

Contribute perspectives concerning research integrity, publication ethics, peer review, editorial independence, transparency, and scholarly accountability.

03

Advise on emerging developments in scientific research, scholarly communication, digital publishing, artificial intelligence, metadata, and research dissemination.

INDEPENDENCE

Independent Scholarly Advice

Advisory Board members are expected to contribute scholarly guidance based on professional judgement, academic experience, disciplinary knowledge, research integrity, and responsible publishing principles.

Recommendations of the Publisher Advisory Board are advisory in nature. Publisher management retains responsibility for organisational and operational matters, while manuscript-level editorial responsibility remains with the editorial leadership of the respective journal.
07
CONFLICTS OF INTEREST

Disclosure and Responsible Participation

Advisory Board members are expected to disclose relevant financial, institutional, professional, academic, or personal interests where such interests could reasonably influence, or appear to influence, the independence of their scholarly advice.

Disclosure

Relevant competing interests should be disclosed when a member participates in discussions or recommendations to which such interests relate.

Recusal

A member may refrain from participating in a particular discussion or recommendation where an appropriate conflict of interest exists.

Confidentiality

Non-public information received through advisory activities should be treated appropriately and should not be used for personal, institutional, or professional advantage.

Multidisciplinary Scholarly Representation

The Publisher Advisory Board currently represents expertise across computer science, artificial intelligence, electrical and electronics engineering, mechanical and materials engineering, and applied and computational mathematics. This multidisciplinary composition supports publisher-level guidance across the diverse scholarly areas represented within the Macaw Publications journal portfolio.

Advisory Role and Editorial Independence

Membership of the Publisher Advisory Board is advisory in nature. Members contribute scholarly perspectives concerning publisher-level academic development, research integrity, responsible publishing practices, interdisciplinary research, and emerging scholarly directions.

Membership does not automatically confer responsibility for the editorial handling, peer review, acceptance, or rejection of manuscripts submitted to an individual Macaw Publications journal. Where a member separately holds an editorial appointment with a particular journal, the two responsibilities are treated as distinct roles.

10
CONTINUOUS REVIEW

Review and Development of Advisory Activities

Macaw Publications periodically reviews the scope, composition, expertise, and functioning of the Publisher Advisory Board to help ensure that its membership continues to provide relevant scholarly guidance in a changing research and publishing environment.

Such review may take account of developments in research integrity, peer review, artificial intelligence, digital publishing, research data, open scholarly communication, metadata, accessibility, interdisciplinary research, and other matters relevant to responsible scientific publishing.

ADVISORY COMMITMENT

Independent Scholarly Guidance for Responsible Publishing

Through its Publisher Advisory Board, Macaw Publications seeks to strengthen the scholarly foundations of its publishing activities by drawing upon independent academic expertise, responsible professional judgement, disciplinary knowledge, research integrity, and a shared commitment to credible and accessible scholarly communication.
