AI Policy
1. Introduction
Macaw Publications is committed to fostering a responsible, transparent, and ethical research environment. As Artificial Intelligence (AI)–based tools continue to influence scientific communication, we recognize both their value and their limitations. This AI Policy outlines the standards governing the use of AI technologies in manuscripts submitted to Macaw Publications’ Scientific Research International Multidisciplinary and Interdisciplinary Journal.
Our aim is to ensure that AI-assisted methods enhance scholarly output without compromising academic integrity, authorship accountability, or the rigor expected in peer-reviewed scientific literature.
2. Acceptable Use of AI Tools
Authors may use AI tools responsibly, provided such use does not replace the core intellectual contributions of the researchers. Acceptable uses include:
-
Language editing and grammar correction: improving clarity, fluency, and readability.
-
Data visualization assistance: supporting formatting or generating figures from author-verified data.
-
Code assistance: suggesting programming improvements where full responsibility for correctness lies with the authors.
-
Literature organization: helping to structure bibliographic references, provided all citations are manually verified.
In all cases, authors must maintain full control over interpretation, accuracy, and originality of the manuscript.
3. Prohibited Uses of AI Tools
To protect the rigor and trustworthiness of scholarly publishing, the following uses of AI are not permitted:
-
AI-generated content presented as original research findings, including fabricated data, references, or experiments.
-
Undisclosed use of generative AI to draft substantial portions of the manuscript.
-
AI-generated images, graphs, or figures that simulate experimental results.
-
Use of AI to manipulate or obscure data, including predictive filling of missing or incomplete datasets.
-
Automated peer review or reviewer identity generation.
Any manuscript found violating these principles may be rejected or retracted.
4. Disclosure Requirements
Macaw Publications requires full transparency regarding the use of AI. Authors must clearly state:
-
Which AI tools were used, including tool names and versions.
-
For what purpose AI was utilized, such as language refinement or coding assistance.
-
The extent of AI assistance and assurance that all outputs were critically reviewed and validated by the authors.
A disclosure statement should be included in the Acknowledgements or Methods section of the manuscript.
5. Authorship and Accountability
AI tools cannot be credited as authors under any circumstances. Authorship requires:
-
Intellectual contribution
-
Ability to take responsibility for the work
-
Capacity to respond to critiques, revisions, and ethical queries
Therefore, all listed authors are fully accountable for:
-
The integrity of the content
-
The validity of the findings
-
Compliance with this AI Policy
AI cannot assume these responsibilities and thus cannot hold authorship.
6. AI in Peer Review
Macaw Publications prohibits reviewers from using AI systems to:
-
Generate peer-review reports
-
Upload or analyze confidential manuscripts within AI tools
-
Summarize or critique manuscripts using third-party AI platforms
Reviewers may use AI for minor language refinement only if no confidential text is entered and no content is shared externally.
7. Data Privacy and Confidentiality
Authors and reviewers must ensure that no confidential or unpublished data are uploaded into AI platforms that:
-
Store user inputs
-
Use data for model training
-
Share content with third parties
Sensitive data—including patient records, proprietary datasets, or unpublished ideas—must be protected in accordance with international privacy standards.
8. Policy Enforcement
Macaw Publications employs manual and automated checks to detect:
-
AI-generated text
-
Fabricated references
-
Machine-generated images
-
Inconsistent or non-human writing patterns
Violations may result in:
-
Manuscript rejection
-
Publication withdrawal
-
Notification to the author’s institution
-
Future submission restrictions
9. Continuous Policy Evolution
AI technologies evolve rapidly. Macaw Publications will regularly review and update this policy in alignment with:
-
International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) guidelines
-
Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) recommendations
-
Best practices across scholarly publishing
Authors are encouraged to consult the latest version of the policy prior to submission.
Macaw Publications values innovation but upholds the highest ethical standards in scientific publishing. This AI Policy ensures that AI tools are used responsibly, enhancing scholarly communication while preserving academic integrity, originality, and trust across disciplines.
