Introduction
Establish the research context, problem, relevant literature, objectives, and contribution.
Macaw Publications is committed to clear, transparent, and responsible manuscript submission practices. Authors should ensure that submitted work is original, relevant to the selected journal, prepared according to appropriate scholarly standards, and accompanied by complete information concerning authorship, affiliations, ethics, funding, competing interests, data, permissions, and other applicable declarations.
This page provides publisher-level requirements applicable across Macaw Publications journals. Authors must also consult the individual journal's Author Guidelines for the current article types, manuscript format, reference style, word or figure limits, peer-review model, Open Access licence, Article Processing Charge or no-fee status, and other journal-specific requirements.
Before submitting a manuscript, authors should review the aims and scope of the selected journal and confirm that the subject, methodology, scholarly contribution, and intended readership are appropriate for that journal.
Manuscripts that fall substantially outside the journal's stated scope may be declined during initial editorial screening without external peer review.
Authors should also review the journal's current policies on article types, peer review, Open Access, copyright, licensing, author charges, research ethics, competing interests, data, artificial intelligence, and post-publication corrections before submission.
Macaw Publications journals may differ in disciplinary conventions and publishing models. The following information should therefore be verified on the website of the journal to which the manuscript will be submitted.
Accepted article types and subject coverage.
Required manuscript structure and formatting.
Reference and citation style.
Peer-review model used by the journal.
Word, table, figure, supplementary-material, or other article-type limits where applicable.
Open Access and copyright arrangements.
The exact licence applicable to published articles.
Article Processing Charge, other author charges, waiver provisions, or explicit no-fee status.
Authors are responsible for appropriately acknowledging ideas, text, data, figures, tables, methods, software, and other material derived from previous work.
Substantial overlap with previously published or submitted work must be disclosed to the journal. Where a manuscript develops earlier conference, preprint, thesis, report, or related material, authors should disclose the relationship and provide appropriate citation or explanation where applicable.
Fabrication, falsification, plagiarism, deceptive manipulation, duplicate publication, citation manipulation, or other serious breaches of research integrity are not acceptable.
A manuscript submitted for consideration as an original scholarly article should not simultaneously be under formal consideration for publication as the same article by another journal.
Authors should inform the editorial office promptly if a potentially overlapping publication, submission, preprint, conference paper, dataset article, or related manuscript may be relevant to editorial assessment.
Authorship should reflect genuine scholarly contribution and accountability for the submitted work.
Every listed author should have made an appropriate scholarly contribution to the work.
All authors should review and approve the submitted manuscript.
All authors should agree to the authorship order presented at submission.
Individuals who contributed but do not qualify for authorship should be acknowledged appropriately with their permission where required.
Gift, guest, honorary, purchased, fabricated, or concealed authorship is inconsistent with responsible publication.
Requests for substantive authorship changes after submission may require written explanation and agreement from affected contributors.
Author information should be complete and accurate at the time of submission.
For each author, provide the professional name and current institutional affiliation appropriate to the work, including department or unit where applicable, institution, city, state or region where appropriate, and country.
Authors may provide an ORCID iD or other persistent researcher identifier where supported by the journal.
One author should be identified as the corresponding author and should provide an active email address for editorial communication.
The corresponding author is responsible for maintaining communication with the journal and for ensuring that relevant information is communicated to all co-authors.
Unless the individual journal specifies otherwise, the manuscript information should contain sufficient details to identify the work and its contributors accurately.
Complete and informative manuscript title.
Full names of all authors.
Institutional affiliations and countries.
Corresponding author's email address.
ORCID iDs where available and requested.
Funding information where applicable.
Competing-interest declaration where applicable.
Scholarly manuscripts should include a clear and informative abstract appropriate to the article type.
The abstract should accurately represent the purpose, methodology or approach, principal findings, and main conclusions of the work where those elements are applicable.
Claims made in the abstract should be supported by the manuscript and should not exaggerate the significance or certainty of the findings.
Where a journal publishes articles in a language other than English, the journal-specific requirements concerning an accurate English-language title and abstract should be followed.
Authors should provide relevant keywords where required by the journal. Keywords should represent the principal concepts, methods, materials, populations, technologies, or subject areas addressed by the manuscript.
Keywords should support accurate scholarly discovery and should not be selected primarily for promotional purposes or unrelated search-engine visibility.
Manuscript organisation should follow the conventions of the relevant discipline and the requirements of the individual journal and article type.
Establish the research context, problem, relevant literature, objectives, and contribution.
Describe the methods, materials, datasets, participants, procedures, or analytical approach sufficiently clearly for scholarly evaluation.
Present findings accurately and distinguish observed results from interpretation where appropriate.
Interpret findings in relation to the research objectives, relevant literature, limitations, and broader implications.
Summarise the principal contribution without making claims unsupported by the evidence.
Include applicable ethics, funding, competing-interest, data, authorship, acknowledgements, and other required declarations.
Manuscripts should provide sufficient methodological and contextual information to permit meaningful scholarly assessment.
Authors should use recognised reporting standards or discipline-specific guidelines where these are applicable to the study design.
Methods, datasets, statistical procedures, software, materials, instruments, and experimental conditions should be identified with sufficient precision where they materially affect interpretation or reproducibility.
Figures and tables should be relevant to the scholarly content and should be cited in the manuscript.
Captions should enable readers to understand the presented material appropriately.
Images must not be manipulated in a manner that misrepresents the underlying data or observation.
Previously published or third-party material must be appropriately acknowledged and permission obtained where legally required.
Authors should retain original or underlying image data where it may reasonably be required for editorial or integrity assessment.
References should accurately identify the scholarly sources cited in the manuscript and should follow the reference style specified by the individual journal.
Authors are responsible for checking bibliographic accuracy, including author names, article titles, journal or publication titles, year, volume, issue, pages or article numbers, and DOI information where applicable.
References should be selected for legitimate scholarly relevance. Authors must not add irrelevant citations for the purpose of artificially increasing citations to themselves, editors, reviewers, institutions, journals, or publishers.
Research requiring ethical, institutional, regulatory, or other formal approval must have received the appropriate approval before the research was conducted where required by applicable standards and law.
Authors should provide the name of the approving body, committee, or authority and relevant approval information where applicable.
Research involving identifiable human participants should include appropriate information concerning informed consent, privacy, and publication consent where required.
The journal may request supporting documentation where ethical compliance requires clarification.
Authors are responsible for the accuracy and integrity of the data used to support their scholarly claims.
Where appropriate to the discipline, article type, ethical conditions, and journal policy, authors should provide a data availability statement explaining whether supporting data are publicly available, available on reasonable request, restricted for legitimate reasons, or not applicable.
Data availability must not override legitimate obligations relating to participant privacy, confidentiality, commercial sensitivity, security, intellectual property, contractual restrictions, or applicable law.
Editors may request underlying data or supporting documentation when necessary for peer review or research-integrity assessment.
Authors should disclose funding, grants, equipment, materials, services, or other material support relevant to the work where applicable.
Where a funder or sponsor participated materially in study design, data collection, analysis, interpretation, manuscript preparation, or the decision to submit the work, that role should be disclosed where relevant.
Where the research received no external funding and the journal requires a funding declaration, authors should state that clearly.
Authors must disclose financial or non-financial interests that could reasonably be perceived as influencing the research, interpretation, or publication of the manuscript.
Relevant interests may include financial relationships, employment, consultancy, patents, investments, professional relationships, institutional interests, close personal relationships, or other circumstances relevant to the work.
Disclosure of a competing interest does not automatically prevent publication. The purpose of disclosure is to enable transparent and appropriate editorial assessment.
Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, citations, reasoning, images, data interpretation, and integrity of submitted manuscripts regardless of whether artificial intelligence or automated tools were used during manuscript preparation.
An AI system or generative AI tool must not be listed as an author because responsibility and accountability for scholarly work must remain with identifiable human contributors.
Authors should disclose material use of generative AI or other AI-assisted tools where required by the Macaw Publications AI & Generative AI Use Policy or the individual journal.
Authors must independently verify AI-assisted content, particularly factual statements, references, quotations, calculations, interpretations, and other scholarly claims.
Where the individual journal permits preprints, prior posting of a manuscript on a recognised preprint platform does not by itself constitute formal journal publication.
Authors should disclose relevant preprints or earlier public versions at submission and provide appropriate links or identifiers where requested.
Authors should consult the selected journal's policy because requirements concerning preprints, conference versions, working papers, theses, and other prior dissemination may vary.
Authors are responsible for ensuring that material included in their manuscript can be published lawfully.
Where figures, tables, photographs, questionnaires, substantial extracts, maps, datasets, or other material are protected by third-party rights, authors should obtain the necessary permission before publication unless lawful reuse is otherwise permitted.
Appropriate credit and licence or permission information should accompany reused material where required.
Manuscripts should be written clearly and professionally so that the research can be evaluated and understood by the intended scholarly audience.
Authors are responsible for ensuring that terminology, abbreviations, units, equations, tables, figures, references, and technical expressions are presented consistently.
Language-editing assistance, where used, does not transfer responsibility for the scholarly content away from the authors and does not guarantee manuscript acceptance.
Authors should upload the files required by the individual journal and provide complete submission metadata in the OJS submission system.
Main manuscript file in the journal's accepted format.
Separate title page where required by the peer-review model.
Figures or high-quality source files where required.
Supplementary material where applicable.
Ethics, permission, reporting, or supporting documents where required.
Cover letter or response documentation where requested.
Macaw Publications journals use Open Journal Systems (OJS) for journal publishing and manuscript workflow management.
Authors should submit manuscripts through the official submission interface of the selected journal unless that journal explicitly provides another authorised procedure.
During submission, authors should complete the requested metadata accurately rather than relying solely on information contained in the uploaded manuscript.
Author names, affiliations, article title, abstract, keywords, funding information, and other metadata entered into OJS should correspond with the submitted manuscript.
Submission does not guarantee external peer review or publication.
New submissions may undergo an initial editorial assessment for scope, scholarly suitability, completeness, presentation, originality concerns, research integrity, ethical requirements, necessary declarations, and compliance with journal instructions.
Manuscripts that do not satisfy basic requirements may be returned for technical correction or declined before external review.
Manuscripts that proceed beyond initial screening are handled according to the peer-review and editorial process stated by the relevant journal.
Primary research and other peer-reviewed scholarly manuscripts are evaluated according to the peer-review model publicly stated by the individual journal.
Authors should respond carefully to editor and reviewer comments and should identify substantive revisions clearly when submitting a revised manuscript.
Reviewers provide scholarly recommendations; final editorial responsibility remains with the authorised journal editor in accordance with the journal's governance and conflict-of-interest procedures.
Where revision is invited, authors should submit a revised manuscript together with the response materials requested by the journal.
Address each substantive reviewer or editor comment.
Explain clearly where and how the manuscript has been revised.
Where a suggested change is not adopted, provide a respectful scholarly explanation.
Update data, references, declarations, or supplementary material where necessary.
Ensure that revisions do not introduce inconsistencies elsewhere in the manuscript.
A manuscript should be regarded as formally accepted only after an authorised editorial acceptance decision has been communicated through the journal's recognised editorial process.
Following acceptance, authors may be asked to verify metadata, resolve production queries, review proofs, confirm copyright or licensing information, and complete other publication requirements applicable to the journal.
Proof review is intended primarily to identify production errors. Major changes to accepted scholarly content may require additional editorial consideration.
Macaw Publications does not apply one universal Article Processing Charge across its journal portfolio.
Some journals may charge an Article Processing Charge or other clearly disclosed author-facing fee, while other journals may operate without author publication charges.
Authors must consult the selected journal's current fee page for the authoritative APC amount, currency, author category, payment stage, other applicable charges, and waiver or reduction arrangements where offered.
The existence, payment, waiver, reduction, or absence of an author charge must not determine peer-review recommendations or scholarly editorial decisions.
Authors should review the selected journal's Open Access, copyright, and licensing conditions before submission.
The individual journal should identify the copyright arrangement, applicable open licence or other publication licence, permitted reuse, and repository-sharing conditions.
Authors are responsible for ensuring that they possess the rights necessary to grant the applicable publication and licensing permissions.
Accurate metadata improves identification, attribution, discoverability, citation linking, DOI registration, and downstream scholarly indexing.
Authors should carefully verify spelling and sequence of author names, institutional affiliations, countries, manuscript title, abstract, keywords, references, funding information, and other metadata before final submission.
Requests to correct substantial metadata errors after publication may require formal post-publication action.
Before completing submission, authors should confirm each applicable item below.

Submission through OJS constitutes a request for scholarly editorial consideration and does not transfer responsibility for the accuracy, integrity, permissions, authorship, ethical compliance, references, data, or declarations of the manuscript to the publisher.
Authors should respond promptly and accurately when editors request clarification or supporting information during manuscript assessment.
Authors should read the policies relevant to their manuscript before completing submission. Depending on the selected journal, these may include:
Publication Ethics & Research Integrity; Peer Review & Editorial Process; Editorial Independence & Conflict of Interest; AI & Generative AI Use Policy; Open Access, Copyright & Licensing; Post-Publication Corrections & Retractions; Special Issues & Guest Editor Policy; and Transparency & Business Practices.
Where a journal-specific instruction differs from a general publisher-level formatting instruction, the current journal-specific instruction should be followed provided that it remains consistent with applicable publisher ethics and integrity requirements.
Questions concerning article type, manuscript format, submission status, peer review, references, APCs, licences, revisions, or journal-specific requirements should normally be directed to the editorial office of the journal to which the manuscript is being submitted.
