Conflict of Interest

1. Introduction

Macaw Publications is committed to maintaining the integrity, transparency, and trustworthiness of the scholarly publishing process. Conflicts of interest (COIs), whether financial, personal, academic, or institutional, may compromise—or appear to compromise—the objectivity and impartiality of research, review, and editorial decisions.

This Conflict of Interest Policy outlines the standards all authors, reviewers, and editors must follow to ensure ethical conduct and protect the credibility of our Scientific Research International Multidisciplinary and Interdisciplinary Journal.

2. Definition of Conflict of Interest

A conflict of interest occurs when an individual’s external relationships or personal interests could reasonably influence:

  • Professional judgment

  • Research integrity

  • Editorial or review decisions

  • Interpretation or presentation of data

Conflicts can be actual, potential, or perceived. All must be fully disclosed to uphold transparency.

3. Types of Conflicts of Interest

Macaw Publications recognizes the following categories of COIs:

a. Financial Conflicts

  • Funding from commercial or competing entities

  • Employment, consultancy, or advisory roles

  • Honoraria, grants, or gifts

  • Stock ownership or investment interests

  • Paid travel or accommodation

b. Personal and Academic Conflicts

  • Relationships with authors or reviewers

  • Personal rivalry or collaboration

  • Intellectual or academic competition

  • Supervisor–student or mentor–mentee relationships

c. Institutional and Organizational Conflicts

  • Affiliations with organizations that may benefit from the research

  • Institutional pressures or expectations influencing study outcomes

d. Ethical and Professional Conflicts

  • Unpublished data from competing research groups

  • Engagement in related policy or advocacy activities

All such conflicts must be declared to maintain fairness and impartiality.

4. Conflict of Interest Disclosure for Authors

Authors must disclose any conflicts, including:

  • Funding sources and financial support

  • Personal or professional relationships influencing the work

  • Any involvement by sponsors in study design or analysis

  • Use of AI tools that may affect objectivity (as per AI Policy)

A Conflict of Interest Statement must be included in the manuscript or submitted during the publication process.

If no conflicts exist, authors must explicitly state:
“The authors declare no conflicts of interest.”

5. Conflict of Interest Responsibilities for Reviewers

Reviewers play a crucial role in maintaining the integrity of the peer review process. Reviewers must:

  • Decline reviews if they cannot be impartial

  • Disclose any financial or personal relationships with authors

  • Avoid using unpublished material for personal research

  • Maintain confidentiality at all times

Reviewers must recuse themselves immediately if a conflict could influence their assessment.

6. Conflict of Interest Responsibilities for Editors

Editors overseeing submissions must:

  • Make unbiased decisions based solely on scholarly merit

  • Avoid handling manuscripts where they have personal or academic relationships

  • Disclose any conflicts to the Editorial Board

  • Assign editors or reviewers without conflicts

  • Ensure transparent and ethical editorial practices

Editors must withdraw from decision-making if any conflict arises.

7. Management of Conflicts of Interest

Macaw Publications manages COIs through:

  • Mandatory disclosure forms

  • Reassignment of manuscripts

  • Transparent publication of funding statements

  • Editorial oversight and evaluation of potential conflicts

Where necessary, the Editorial Board may request additional details or seek clarification from authors, reviewers, or editors to ensure the integrity of the process.

8. Undisclosed Conflicts

Failure to disclose a conflict of interest may result in:

  • Manuscript rejection

  • Retraction of published articles

  • Editorial investigation

  • Notification to affiliated institutions

  • Restrictions on future submissions

Ethical transparency is essential to maintaining trust within the research community.

9. Public Disclosure

Funding and conflict of interest statements are published alongside articles to ensure transparency for:

  • Readers

  • Researchers

  • Institutions

  • Indexing organizations

Macaw Publications believes openness strengthens scientific reliability and global academic collaboration.
